Task Squid and health and fitness

Health and fitness is all about tasks.  Just ask Dylan Davies, a Pilates instructor in Beverly Hills, CA.  When she is working with her clients they get results.  However, when they are on their own it’s a completely different story.

Robin skips breakfast.  Jeff doesn’t drink enough water.  Sarah does not know what exercises to do.  This is the life of a health and fitness professional.  For these reasons Dylan started using Task Squid as a way of creating accountability for her clients on the days they were not working with her.

The “Task” feature allows her to create and then automate a daily reminder to each client of what they are supposed to be doing via email, Facebook, Instant messenger or text message at the exact time of day they want to be reminded.  In return, Dylan receives an update of how her clients did for they day in accordance with how and when she wants to be reminded.

The results speak for themselves.  Robin is now reminded to eat breakfast every morning before she leaves for work. Jeff is now held accountable to drinking more water.  And Sarah receives a workout video as an attachment that she can do on her own.  This is why Dylan is a Task Squid customer.

Task Squid and nightclub promotions?

Rocky Ross is a club promoter based in Hollywood, CA.  He represents some of Southern California’s most successful nightclubs.  Every week he assembles his team of assistants and sub-promoters to discuss the upcoming promotions.  In order to have a successful weekend he gives his team daily tasks.  In the past, this became a mess of paperwork, follow-up calls, Facebook messages and reminder text messages.  After trying numerous task management systems he found Task Squid.

When I asked Rocky what feature he liked the most about Task Squid he said it was not so much any one feature but its integration of social media into task management.  As a nightclub promoter he does not run ads in the Los Angeles Times or in the Yellow pages.  The promotion industry is deeply rooted in social media.  For every successful promotion there are numerous Facebook messages, Twitter updates and text messages that need to be sent out. Therefore, the fact that he can manage all this from one home site, his cell phone or through Facebook or Twitter is why Rocky Ross is a Task Squid customer.

iCal and Outlook calendar integration has now been added for tasks with due dates.

We have recently updated our calendar integrations to not only include Google Calendar but now Outlook and iCal as well.  Just add a due date when adding a task, then click the calendar icon found next to the due date above the applicable task.   Hopefully this is what everyone who made the request was looking for.   Let us know.

Task grouping by user – our way to reduce visual clutter.

We have received a few support requests asking why the user avatar disappears when tasks are added for the same user consecutively.   The way that Task Squid is set up to work is that each task assigned with a unique user will show that user’s avatar and name on the right side of the task and have a solid line between it and the next task.  When 2 or more tasks are assigned to the same user or users in a row, rather than repeat the avatar for every task, we felt the most user friendly and least cluttered solution, was to only list the avatar and username on the first task, but then divide each task by only a dotted line instead of a solid, to show that it was a group of tasks for the same user.

This is a feature that we are very open to feedback and other solutions and would love to hear if users would just prefer we list the user avatar and name every time.

Now add a due time to tasks as well as know quickly if the tasks are past due.

We recently added two new features to your Task Squid tasks with due dates on them.   The first is in addition to a date, users now have the ability to add a time that the task is due.  If you have your Google Calendar added to your account then when this task is added it will appear on your calendar with both a due date and time.

The second new feature is that tasks with due dates will now show the due date green up until the day the task is due.   Once the due date has arrived, the date link above the task will then turn red letting you know that the task is now due.
